Could anyone kindly let me know what they think the asymmetrical, irregular shaped stones are on the middle string of this piece please? 20230430_192904.jpg

Possibly ctrine, but I'm more inclined to peridot/olivine. Having it shown on brown instead of white may be confounding things.

Peridot I wish. I noticed what looked like wear to the colour of the stones. I treated one to a bit of nail vanish remover and it is just a coloured coating. I think they are glass.

Have you aimed a UV light at it yet?

Unfortunately I think the round ones are glass too. The chip beads want to be peridot but I don't quite believe them. They don't generally use peridot in costume pieces.

I haven't bothered with this piece as I only know UV as a test for amber and I knew this wasn't. Just out of interest, what else can UV test for?

The rest of the beads are almost definitely glass. I just thought the ones I questioned had a natural look about them and thought they might be gem stones until I looked closely. I put my tablet screen on a white background and laid them on it and it showed more detail such as uneven surface colour and wear between the beads. I then tried the nail polish remover and scraped the surface of one and a flake came off.

A necklace full of peridot would have been lovely :woot:

Peridot chip necklaces are cheap and cheerful. If you search a bit you will find one.

Never realised. The cut stones are quite expensive.

It never crossed my mind that uranium glass was used to make jewellery.

I have run my light over it and nothing. It's just plain old boring glass.
