Mt. Fuji mark with "H.L.H." on a saucer/cup?

HLH mark.jpg not HLH mark.jpg 3-piece set.jpg Two mysteries. First mystery: Can't identify this H.L.H. mark on the underside of the smaller saucer. Second mystery: The tiny cup that matches this sauce has no mark under it, and the small plate that matches the saucer has a different Mt. Fuji mark, without the "H.L.H." designation (see pics). Looking for a sense of age, and if by some unlikely chance it's anything terribly special. Thanks!

taken from Etsy....... I can not confirm or deny...

Mount Fuji and a stream. The two characters below the picture are read together as Nippon (= Japan). Mark similar to those of Fukagawa. It is possible that these and similar clear red stamps or print marks actually date from the period of occupied Japan (1945-52).

Those are lithophane cups. A.King has not indicated if they are. With no mark on the cup, they just might be.

Troll through 20th c Japanese marks on gotheborg.com and it may be there. However, I would place them earlier, 1920s/30s although not 100% certain.

    HOLY MOLY!

The ad said "If you hold the cup up to the light, you can see a geisha portrait at the bottom of the cup."

I didn't know what to expect, so I did it, and I'll be darned if there isn't a crystal clear, decent-resolution looking black and white image of a geisha! File attached!!!

She is actually not a Geisha, but a Japanese woman. Many of these models were girls who worked in the porcelain factory.
Geisha is a specific profession, and unfortunately it has become usage in the US to call every Japanese woman a Geisha.

Fair enough. That's what I get for trusting the Etsy's of the world... :)

Quite, but common usage not just in the US calls them geisha. ;) Errors of this sort are not all that rare and many things are misnomers. Lithopanes are cool.
