Hi, I found this very heavy art glass vase on one of my trips and thought it was amazing. I am curious to know if it might be murano glass? There are no markings or stickers. There are however, 935712B5-81B1-4A36-A406-1BBFF808D728.jpeg 720F4A35-5261-4079-B620-68E5F924DC85.jpeg 4FF9789F-277A-4B30-A3EF-DC9694454368.jpeg 038E40F3-9EFA-4335-A11C-A33FEAC998C5.jpeg a lot of bubble inclusions inside the piece. Would murano have so many bubbles? Thank you for looking.

Murano glass, like any hand blown, can have bubbles.

Can you get photos against a plain background please?

Sure, here are some clearer? images. I picked it up at a thrift shop in Carlsbad, California; it’s measurements are 9”x5”; a 4” big mouth; and a 3” base. Men are not required, but most, I’m sure, can heft this 8lb 9.3oz vase.

    thank you! 702CDFDA-D485-4D26-8B2F-C3C44F5F6C74.jpeg 4E3BB1E8-88B0-4DC8-9776-158AF6580010.jpeg 23444E55-A625-4F14-A191-F866FB21BC3A.jpeg C5A42E66-1FB5-47DD-AD3A-3B394381029D.jpeg 384D1124-F867-4EA8-AA4E-F3C57D3417FC.jpeg

Photos updated. Thank you. Curious to know, do murano vases weigh a certain amount? Like a taller vase might weigh 22lbs etc.oz? Is there a formula you follow on determining weight of a murano glass piece?

Hence “blown glass” I suppose; but, I’ve seen murano glass before, and I didn’t notice quite as many air bubbles or inclusions as this piece.

The technique is “sommerso”, one color submersed in another. Lots coming out of China lately.

The dead flat bottom I think could indicate China. Especially because of the lack of wear.

So, Chinese and definitely not murano. Ok. Thank you very much for looking.

Plenty of Murano pieces have flat bottoms, but I'd probably guess China on this as well. There's a brand called 5th Ave. that makes a lot of sommerso style stuff in China.

China produces a lot of art glass, often referential. Some of it is very nice. This would look very nice in a window.

Murano and other good glass often has smooth fire polished bases.

I do think this looks Fifth Avenue. The sommerso layers aren't quite crisp enough.

Thank you for your response, what is it that indicates China on a piece like this?

Thank you, that is a definitive response on what it is we’re looking at which helps narrow down the possibilities. I appreciate your assistance.
