I was at a local auction a few days ago and I came across this print (so I thought) during preview. When the item came up for bidding, I was the only taker at $5.00. The auction venue is not known for selling art (typical middle-of-nowhere country auction).

It was late by the time I got home so I left all the items I purchased inside the car. The next morning while unloading, I managed to break the glass. UGH!

While I was cleaning up, I noticed some texture to the print. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that it is NOT a print but an actual painting on board! WOO HOO!

Since the glass was broke, I needed to take it out of the frame to prevent further damage to my newly found discovery.

After I took off the back boards, there were several sheets of tissue paper between the boards and the painting. Underneath the tissue was this amazing engraving of President Garfield & Family that's dated 1882!!

The engraving was done in Chicago and the painting board has a shop tag also from Chicago. Possibly the painting was also done in 1882? There is no signature that I can find.

Anyway, I don't know if any of this is worth $$$ but it certainly was a fun discovery ))
