Update: The 980 Manhattan Place South was the family home. In 1923, she would have been living there with her parents and younger brother as she didn't marry until 1935.

    Interesting!

Yes, she was a young woman when she did this painting. 23/24 years old.

Super. The rocks/tide pools look like what my kids played around in Corona del Mar, Calif about 1 hour south of Los Angeles Not at the main CDM state beach but at "little Corona" beach at the north end of the little cove, most photos show the south end photos way from the look out. The look out is about 30 feet above the waterline that looks just like that below. Plein Air painters setup there all the time.

According to the 1923 edition of American Art Annual, she summered in Laguna Beach. Could be there.

According to the 1923 edition of American Art Annual, she summered in Laguna Beach. For sure! LA beaches do not have a lot of tidepools. Laguna and Corona del Mar share a border on the coast. CDM the town just north of Laguna Beach. You can drive all of CDM and Laguna along Pacific Coast Highway in about 10 min with access to many beaches, coves, and tidepools.

I wonder if it's the painting she won the award for. Not a lot of information about West Coast Artists Ltd. on the internet. It was a Los Angeles organization and met at The Ebell.

I don't know which award you mean....

I do know that she was part of the 1932 Olympics, held in Los Angeles. They had 'contests' for various arts, including painting.

I can't find it said that she won anything, but she is listed as an American Olympian here. When I bought the painting, the shop owner knew that one detail from his own research.

Her short bio on the American Art Annual page I posted above lists an award as "Award: Second prize, West Coast Arts, 1923" on the last line.
