Kinda just sharing here, but I welcome all comments---and I mean that. I'm excited about this one--likely a permanent keeper. I paid a decent amount, but I think what I paid is 1/5 its value... or less.

22" x 16" Signed Charles Bradford Hudson. (Three cheers for legible signatures!)

Is it likely the original frame? If so, do you recommend repairing the paint?

    Thank you!!

Hum... Studied with Bouguereau. That's interesting. I do think the frame is original. This looks like the same scene. Wyoming, not California as one might expect.

Wow--that is totally the same mountain. Interesting. Perhaps one of the Tetons?

    Thanks @Debora

Replaced image with another, better example. Yes, the Grand Tetons.

If Teton(s), then Snake River plain--- a very often art-ed spot! Painters, photographers...

Because you asked... If it were mine, I'd leave the frame alone. That's honest wear. Doesn't distract or detract. IMHO.

I love it. I also think the frame is fitting and the wear adds a history and texture without being distracting.

I love a good picture-complimenting texture to a frame. It elevates it. And the way you photographed it, that gold looks like it's the shining sun of the landscape. It's got great atmospheric perspective that makes it feel as vast as the location itself is in real life.

I feel like that's a good part of the purpose of Western US painting...

Great find for what sounds like a great deal ! You might consider changing your alias to 'Pottery&Artplease'.I vote for keeping the original frame, prob original to the piece. It's age complements the wild Western subject.
    Again congrats.

Nice painting in original frame. I would not do anything to the frame. However, you might keep your eye out for a better period example frame. Nothing wrong with the original frame but something like this would really elevate the painting......

Edit: Just realized that your painting appears to be an odd size. It would be a long-shot to find another period frame for it.

I actually keep a list in my wallet of the dimensions of a few pieces I'd like to re-frame. I'll add this one to it-- you never know!

Like it too…congrats. My opinion is that a frame is part of the history of the piece so unless it’s REALLY trashed (yours is fine IMO) or hideous (not) I hang art as is. With respect to those who always reframe I get hives when I walk into floor to ceiling all salon hung in gold (or silver etc.)
