    Hi! Hoping for some smart advice: my mom (in Germany) passed down this object to me. All she told me is that it had been owned by my grandmother but that she was unaware of its exact origin or function. It’s made of bronze (I think), about 75mm in diameter and 4mm thick with an Egyptian themed relief that has been accented with some gold colored details. The back has some gold and floral relief also. Three prominent irregular oval holes have been cut through the center. Do you have an idea what this is? Thanks in advance for any tips!

    Looks like it's iron,the filled in black metal is shakudo and missing a bit of the gold Zogan inlay.

    @Oliver S

    You can check it with a magnet to see if it is iron,but there are many Japanese copper alloys and it may not be a bronze type.

    I feel stupid now for seeing this (now obvious) Samurai as looking Egyptian. Now trying to figure out its age...
