    Hi all,

I'm searching for a little more information on a wooden monkey statue. Here is what I guessed/know so far about it:

    -Species: Macaque
    -Size: 5"x5"x9"
-Country of Origin: Somewhere in Asia. I'm guessing either China or Japan. Based on how the fur is carved, I'm leaning more towards China. Also the sculpture really reminds of Xing Xing, the one-arm monkey adopted by a Chinese Buddhist nun.
-Age: Definitely has some patina. Guessing 20th century.
-Wood: Some species of hardwood based on pores and weight.
    -Makers Mark: None
-There is an aromatic smell to the wood. Not sure if it's natural or coming from an applied oil.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Good looker! I collect slightly finer to finer monkey things. I’d have tossed him in the barrel.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

@Any Jewelry , Do you have any thoughts on origin or other questions about this?

No idea, to be frank. The mother looks like a macaque of some sort.
Nearly all macaques are Asian, so she could be Asian made.
But the style also reminds me of some Art Deco/Amsterdam School animal carvings, so my jury is still out on this one.
