  1. Hello,

I am typically great at finding information on my weird items I own but here I stand with my lamp at a brick wall.

To explain the lamp stands on a base to top of bulb 7.7 feet tall. It is hand carved wood with original paint and not a repaint. It was rewird around 1960s at some point in its travels from European standard to American standard plugs but the bulbs are actually expensive and European.
I am assuming oil paint over top of a white plaster with a clear varnish. It is also what seems to be European Oak base as wood from what little raw wood I can see.

Interesting points of interest it the head piece is unique along with nail polish and make up. She is also in the pose for victory which makes me feel it was based off of a powerful woman.

Anyways I would love to figure the mystery of her origins story and pick an appropriate name for buy unique.

Think she is wearing a Phrygian cap, which has become a symbol of liberty.

    Any chance she is French?

  3. I truly have tried to prove french but the only similarity is the pose of victory which is much older then France they have used that pose for alot. I had a French revolution person look over her and they said it is missing to much to be French. Wrong style if hat as well.

Would she have been holding something in her right arm?

More of a gypsy, perhaps? Appropriate to a lamp, she is in the posture of anyone holding up a torch. The imagery is not exclusively French.

A photograph of the shoes' heels would be helpful.

Great place to toss your coat as you walk in the door! She is very interesting. I dare say she would scare the bejesus out of me coming across her in the dark of night.

  14. I will upload more pictures later today, I don't believe she is French unless someone can show me French had turban style head pieces. The shoes are flats not heels.
As I said more closer to the east but not eastern Asia but Greece, Rome, Croatia are all areas that did styles of wraps and were of Caucasian decent. I have proven she was not repainted as well her features looks very Caucasian as her nose those a clue in this as well.

  15. She is a lamp not a coat rack, she is my door greeter.

I know she is a lamp. It just looks like she needs to hold something draped over her arm. I think she is pretty unique.

  17. Here are some more photos, she is 100% carved out of wood and then a white plaster was put over top so the artist could paint her.
Everything looks like hand painting done meticulously.
The post again is not of French origin, she is not marianne if France or Columbia goddess

  19. True but there is also numerous accounts all the way to Egyptian using lipstick and face makeup. However this was probably made between 1889 to 1960 from what I can find for research. There isn't much in the world like this that stand 7'5 feet. Lol
