There was a lot of Native American art & stuff donated to the thrift store today & I got this piece.
Is this legit or a tourist/child's drum?
    Thank you!

    nice drum.....some age...but I can't say it's native made with any certainty

Ditto Komo-The thing that rubs me the wrong way is the eagle depiction (but it could be a modern NA rendering). Maybe if the bird was a little more stylized, but then traditions do change with time.

Hey! lol what gives me pause is there are similar on ebay but they are 15" +/- and mine is 10" - so maybe for a child (and hence the eagle'design)?

No worries- the smaller size means your probably more right than I am!

The construction looks good,it's just the painting that looks more European than traditional NA.

I agree. A cool looking thing with some definite age. I know absolutely nothing about identifying authentic NA items. But yes the eagle looks ‘commercialised’ but also it looks way ‘over engineered’ and well constructed for a child’s thing or tourist item (I think)
