When you see a mark that has been covered up like this. It usually means that the ceramic piece was made by one company and sold to another company who did the decorating.

In order to get better help with your items, it would help us if you were to show the fronts with design.

I don't think you can ID a generic Made in Japan stamp, but maybe you can get some keyword ideas. And the stamped over decorator mark on the other one is probably undocumented.
