Need Assistance on Japanese Pottery

    I respectfully ask our fellow members on assisting me on this item. Someone told me that this is Japanese pottery. If this is true, what are these markings? How old is this item and what is it called?

    Hard to see enough detail in the characters on the lid to guess about Japanese versus Chinese, but it sure looks "commercial" and for cooking (like a hot pot?) Not terribly old, either.

    Can you show us the underside and the inside of the "pot" part?
