Click on Full Image so your photos will appear in the post.

We will need to see pictures of the inside of the drawers and any details like the inside of the desk.

I might add that, if it's old, as it appears to be, whoever refinished it took away some of the value. It has no patina left.

In case you haven't noticed, the numbers you mention are in the standard configuration of a Social Security number. Carving or engraving the owner's SSN on things thought to be valuable was (although not so much anymore) a perceived method of identifying items (and getting them back) if they were stolen. The number is unlikely to help in the context of your request for information.

Apologies. That's "Stottlemyer" and he died in Maryland.

The handles look quite old, though it seems that they have been cleaned. In fact I think that the whole piece has been cleaned. There are nails holding the feet in place which also look older. Maybe this could help?

With phillips head screws can't be older than the mid 1930s when invented by Henry Phillips. With a SSN can't be older than Nov. 1936 when they were first issued. To me it all looks no older then from 1950s to the 1970s. My parents got a brand new slant top desk similar to this one as a wedding gift in 1937. It did not have Phillips head screws. Also most of these with any age have knobs on the pulls/slides top rests on. Speaking of those pulls, they don't look right?? They don't look original.

BTW, in case you didn't know, there are 2 secret drawers that pull out on each side of the door in the middle. They call them secret drawers but really aren't because everyone knows about them.
