Need help with a value on this sign ASAP.

I buy and sell a lot of random antique / vintage Items and I would probably 10.00 for that and just hang it up in the garage. I would not be able to flip that for more.

Personally I think the appraiser is nuts. I've attended a few auctions with signage/gasoline collectables over the years and the signs in this condition (barely recognizable) don't garner much interest, probably in $75-100 range here in Southern Ohio. Right content, the Mobil Gas signs with the Pegasus are iconic, but the condition is so rough.

Just some random thoughts, definitely not my area of expertise.

 

I'm telling y'all, the right rustic backyard or patio, or industrial loft... it would MAKE the area!

 

People decorate with a lot of things we wouldn't have touched in the past. Sometimes the more beat up the better. I doubt the end user of this sign will be a sign collector or automobile enthusiast. They would want one in much better condition.

 

It's so hard to know. People collect for so many different reasons and not everyone that's interested in something can afford top end versions and are happy to have less than perfect versions.

At least that's where I am as a collector. (Don't do signs though)

 

When I saw it I just thought it was cool. Went with my gut and doubled my money.
