I'm trying to gather some info on this cigarette case.
It is only marked sterling 950.
I think it is Japanese but not 100% sure about it.
    Please share you thoughts.

    Thanks

In my opinion it is safe to assume it is Japanese. It is mislabeled as sterling is .925, the only named .950 alloy is Britannia silver occasionally used in Britain, but I doubt if the makers were that concerned with detail.
It is arguable that in this instance the term is used to mean sterling standard or better, and the customers for which it is intended would be American, to whom sterling would be familiar without any detailed appreciation of the exact meaning.
    Probably 1950 to 1970.

Lenny, please be so kind as to give the poor thing some silver polish. Regardless of Af's amiable sneer, it should shine beautifully, whether 925, or 950.!

I've seen some Mexican pieces here and there with similar markings, but this ain't that. Odds are good it's Japanese, and as Silverthwait said in need of a polishing cloth.

Looks awfully thin to be a cigarette case, are we sure its not for calling cards? measurements would be nice.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Size doesn't look right for calling cards.....looks like from the "keeper" one could put 11 cigarettes in for an evening out......to me..........:rolleyes:

It's an odd shape for those too, but it would work a treat for business cards. Provided anyone still uses them.

Since Lenny hasn't given dimensions, it's kind of hard to assess use. ;)

Cigarettes used to be shorter, typically 3 inches. The case has a restraining band for a single row of fags.

Looks like the case was hand engraved and only slipped a few times.
