    I think it’s not just about the mix, but how it was mixed and made. And no one quite knows the secret.

    It's curious. Looking around at the cameos in my display cabinet, probably only a handful are in solid gold. Many frames are probably gold filled, or something that way, & those often have a plain brass collar immediately around the cameo. And then some, including the most ornate, are brass all the way. Doubt any are true pinchbeck, although some may have been represented that way by seller. Yet, with one outstanding exception, none of them are showing greenies. We know that once the process starts, it spreads. But what are the conditions that trigger it?

    The exception seems like it's trying to self destruct with corrosion. When I first received it I cleaned it up using a jewellery wipe. This didn't get the green out of recessed places & it returned. Just now decided to give it a vinegar bath, as this will not harm the carnelian intaglio. Seller's photo:
