That one went to a good home, to someone who will keep the history with it. If it's really historical, and Jewish, it could be willed to a museum.

 

Cameo portraits of women are much rarer than ones of men. I add others when I find them, but used this one to start a Pinterest board for them. The description says it is from Berlin, names the engraver & gives the surnames, maiden & married, of the families from whom it came. I wanted to make it possible for family members doing genealogical research to find it. Pretty confident it is one of 3 sisters, may be the one who stayed behind when the others went to South America & committed suicide when anticipating arrest. I have a couple of photos but comparison is hard between full face & profile, with & without hat.

Had not thought about its possible interest to a museum. Would absolutely be willing to bequeath it to the right institution. Have another I would like to give eventually to the National Gallery of Ireland. Have been in touch with them & know they would like to have it.

 

That sounds like a good place for it.
