    Hello everyone !

Looking for some help. Just cleaned out my late father's things and came across this item I'd never seen before. It literally looks like a miniature casket, and I believe it's silver. It appears to have a mark on the bottom - but I have no idea what it is ? It might have been a jewelry case ? Anyone seen one of these before or can point me in a direction ?

The J.B. Mark is Jennings Brothers and most likely a jewelry casket. Not silver but silver plated base metal.

It does look like an Art Nouveau jewelry casket. If you do a Google Images search with those terms you'll find many similar.

I believe that company was out of Boston or the Boston area. They are not very valuable but I think they are beautiful boxes. All the ones I’ve come across usually have the silver plate pretty worn down though.

What's the best way to clean this ? Hagerty's products or another way to clean silver plate/silver items ?

I would start with a soft brush & some dish soap. Make sure it thoroughly dry & then you can try some light polishing with a gentle creamy silver polish. You do not want to clean it totally as leaving some of the blackened areas, especially around the design, will bring out the design.

Never use the aluminum foil trick as it leaves the item with a odd coloring.

Hard to say based on photos but looks like there may not be enough of the plating left to really polish. Hopefully I’m wrong.

never dull , NEVR-DULL® is an extraordinary cleaning wonder that shines all metals with sparkling ease. Each can contains a generous supply of specially treated cotton wadding cloth. Simply remove a piece of wadding from the can and rub it thoroughly over the surface to be polished. Not for use on lacquered or painted surfaces. DSC00516.JPG
