Nooooo idea what this is. Thoughts?

    It looks like it fits to a workbench -- just no idea what it actually does. Ideas?

    I believe this is a vise

    Agree its an angle adjustable vise

    My first reaction was a Vise, it just doesn't seem to do what a vise does and tightens or loosens.

    Looks like a machinist vise for a milling machine

    Vise is probably what it is -- maybe some variation of a vise?

    As Michael77 suggested could be fixed to milling machine because of the aluminum lever shown

    Nope. It is the cross slide for an older metal working lathe. The part on top is called the compound, so it is a compound cross slide. The Holder for the tool bit fits in the top slot. The handle on the bottom operates the cross slide, moving the tool in and out to cut different diameters on the work piece. The top part (the compound) can be rotated to different angles to make angle cuts. A basic part of every lathe. Here is a video, although on a much more modern lathe:
