Not Meissen?

5.5" tall figural vase. I think I've seen this mark before but I can't seem to find it. I dont think this is Meissen mark but now Im not so sure.

 

How interesting... Retailer in Buenos Aires. A high end jewelry store apparently. Earliest date I can find is 1927.

It's going to be 20th century, given the retailer's sticker. And probably can be roughly dated by the logo. Let's see... These 1945 and 1955 ads have different logos so likely newer. This looks like the same logo; seller doesn't identify age of case. (eBay UK item #232978163742) To my eye, the sticker is 1960s-ish.

Not Meissen but that of the Richard Eckert & Co. AG from Volkstedt; mark registered on March 27th 1894.

 

I don't see that mark here.

Hi Marote. I'm a little confused you say its the same mark and then you say it's Meissen. The mark is not Meissen

 

I mean that the one from the pics I added is a Meissen piece (assuming the seller is right with that attribution), and that I think that the one you have is pretending to be Meissen, by using a very similar mark to the Meissen mark that's visible in "my" pics.

 

You should stop using incomplete and outdated online sources. Legit reference material, like books (together with official registration info) are far more reliable than old websites, especially the website you lifted that image from.

I plead guilty on that one; I was burned out following numerous efforts (e.g. on Facefook). The pure ignorance there really put me off. Situations in which people claim (and then troll-confirm) that a certain mark with original importer sticker was genuine KPM Berlin (even if it clearly was made in Japan for Arnart) are becoming more and more the norm. Threads move fast, without a possibility to backup and recap on answers, such nonsense "sticks" in the mind of viewers, which then mindlessly repeat it.

Not forgetting cases where certain paysites threatened me after I took apart their business model and specific statements regarding an "expertise" that was none. People know me; I don't back down on threats (as some repro junk dealers know only too well by now).

I rather concentrated on restructuring my website. Nothing people would directly notice right now, but the framework was improved and the archive behind it has gone through some impressive growth (e.g. pattern lists from Edelstein, Heinrich, and such or the whole "fake Bavaria" items from Italy). And I am finally bringing back the whole "unidentified, repro and fake" section when I get the new menu system running for good as that will greatly improve mobile use (which is really ugly at the moment, due to some shifts in how mobiles handle sites like mine).

So without wanting to promise too much ... you might see me around more often now

 

I fear for the future of knowledge in general, and of antiques knowledge specifically. But I am glad there are sites like yours, and applaud your research, effort and determination. A ray of light in the darkness of wannabe 'expertise'.

 

And it sticks in the "mind" of AI ...
And now that a lot of people use AI to automatically create descriptions when they list things on ebay, catawiki etc., it will keep on being repeated mindlessly by viewers and AI, turning nonsense into "reality"

 

Oh please do pop in more often! I'm afraid that since Ownedbybear left I felt like I had to step up a bit in the pottery and porcelain forum and my brain is quite drained of whatever bits and bobs of info it once contained!
