Numbers on royal doulton

    Hello! I have this cup and saucer from the Brambly Hedge pattern of R. doulton’s “Summer” series by Jill Barklem. What do the black numbers (16 and 50) represent?

    Might be Royal Doulton's shape number, or possibly stencil pattern number.

    I’ve seen many of these on auctions and none have these additional black numbers...

    Is the 16 & 50 under the glaze or over?

    Hard to say for sure but I believe they are over the glaze. I can feel a very slight texture when I run my finger over.

    You thinking someone numbered their private collection?
