I picked this out of a box of scrap by eye thinking it was amber but it isn’t.Looks like a soft toffee.
    No bubbles I can see.
It’s cool to the touch but not ice cold and does warm up once in your hand. It chinks like glass or stone against teeth but feels slightly resin like. Doesn’t react to UV and sinks like the proverbial!. Really weird inclusions although I’m not sure if I’ve used the right description there. I can scratch it with a skewer but not a finger nail and chipped areas look just like amber so I’m very confused!. Daughter found this site - what do you think?!

    Thankyou :)

I have no idea, but wanted to say, kudos to daughter who found something that sure looks like a match, well done.

Now others will tell you about the actual stuff.

She’s only 9 bless her but loves research and finding out facts about the world. She didn’t have any help to find that website either so no idea how she got there!
Edit- she searched ‘rocks that look like Amber’- it takes the simplicity of youth to not over complicate a search!

All because @KSW found a random putty colored rock on the beach!

    Love it!

Those back-lit images are genius :)

I can't take credit as I think it was @kyratango who got me candling pearls with my iPhone light. As well as sitting in a dark closet with a bag of beads and a UV light.....and sniffing plastic....and tapping odd things against my teeth. The things I have learned on this forum!.
The light really shows off the inside. What are all those odd little curves etc I'm seeing do you think?.
Thankyou for all being so kind about daughter. The knowledge is being passed on from you to me to her. Hope she doesn't start sitting in dark cupboards anytime soon though :hilarious:

Looks like it was thinking about being a banded stone with a crystal cavity and it didn't work out.

If you rub it, or heat it slightly does it give off an odor?

For myself, I would taste it, but I leave that decision up to you.

Maybe it should have left the thinking to more mature stones, who know what they are getting themselves into.:pompous:
Ah well, stones live and learn.
