Found this dirty 14" x 17" (image) unsigned oil on board on a birthday day trip of antiquing. 35.5 cm x 43cm)

    No signature, unfortunately.

An accomplished artist, no? I'm thinking this fits that 'California Impressionism' category. I'm curious if you agree.

I'm also thinking I may pay to have it cleaned and restored, but if it's just sorta a common piece from the time, it might not be worth doing that. If it's something better, then it might be worth it.

Thanks for any and all comments!

It looks like is might say Laguna? followed by something? It made me wonder if there might be some more faded pencil.

IMHO it's a good piece in the CA Impressionist style that looks to be done by an accomplished artist. Each brush stroke is carefully laid in by (I think) a skilled hand.
We're don't know who painted it, so value-wise, not sure if it warrants what Sean charges ?
PS- Could be a plein air sketch done in prep for a more finished piece.

Nice loose impressionist style by someone who knew what they were doing. I also see Laguna so likely California, but I get a bit of Group of 7 feel about this.

As it is oil on board, I think it is probably a Plein Air composition. Board was cut to fit the void in the travel case used by the artist. Yes, a California scene.

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

Great eye, SIS! I hadn't noticed that.

    I'll take some more pics....

Antiquers takes several minutes for every action I try.... just to 'like' a response requires my phone to sit for 4-5 minutes. I click 'like' and then go do something else then come and check back, which makes it really hard to follow up in a reasonable way, but I sure thank you all!
