Old penny error help

    Looks to be normal wear on the penny. Not really a error.

    Damage, not error. Worth one cent if you spend it or almost two cents as scrap copper.

    It does look odd. Almost as if the edge fractured in the press. If that were the case, there would be a one-to-one correspondence between the notches on one side and those on the other, and a visible connecting line on the outside edge. If true, I suppose that could be caused by some post-mint trauma, but the placement of the coin and the application of the force would have had to be in an incredibly fortuitous alignment, and I would expect more flattening of the surfaces.

    Still, bizarre things happen, and the obvious heavy wear from circulation means you'll never know for sure.

    Someone took a sharp object to the rim of the coin and for whatever reason gouged those nicks into the coin.
    People do weird things when they have too much time on their hands.
