Old Pottery Belt Buckle

    Some friends sent me these pictures of a belt buckle. They want to know if it is oriental in origin. Measures 1 1/4" x 2".

    I think your friends need to take better focused pictures of the markings on the back.

    Frankly I have never seen a "pottery" belt buckle - too easily broken I would think. I guess there's a first time for everything.

    I've seen Japanese porcelain obidome with similar self-shanks - believe that's what this probably is...

    "clearly see?" Not here. I cannot see in that picture that there is any metal on the back at all. Or are referring to the link you posted?

    Yes, in the link I showed a pottery belt buckle with the customary metal hardware used to secure it to the belt. That is why I suggested an adornment of some sort for a belt, instead...which in essence, is what it turned out to be...in the form of an obidome.

    The metal that was missing in the OP...
