Maybe they were made for a very long time (makes sense for a utilitarian object which is also symbolic), but the details varied from one period to another.
Check for differences, for instance the shape of the hole, and see if they correspond to claims about different periods.

Also research museum collections. The National Museum of Taiwan has a stunning and extensive collection and a lot of it is online. Maybe they have toad brushwashers too.

possibly yes. And have to say the second one is so charmingly detailed and finely preserved! No wonder that one grabbed higher bids

They are here! Within the first hour of their arrival, I managed to removed the glue and found there was a hairline underneath ( of course!). I think it’s stained by ink so I am now researching on how to clean it off. Will post again once they’re ready! c8cf23f2507e2b906ada49bc3f42dd05.jpeg

Great the awful glue went removed! Kudos:)
Perhaps the ink can be removed with alcohol?

thanks Kyra, I’ll try alcohol:shame: that toad’s belly is filled with ancient ink so cleaning will be tough indeed! But at least it looks much better

Agree! I plan to plant coral in them, so more cleaning needs to be done :joyful:
