    Hi,
I have found something really strange. My silver from the 18th Century does not tarnish in my display cabinet but my 10 yr old silver tarnishes after two weeks. It drives me crazy.

    Hi Greg....
Sorry , not strange at all.
It's the quality of the silver, and how it was worked.
I too have & have had silver that I've never needed to touch...& then other sterling that seems to go black all by itself.

    A 1920's cigarette box....that only goes smokey under the lid....and a 1920's Navajo bracelet...that gets black all over..!...ect...

Love the statue. It brought back memories. In college, a friend had a loft filled with "found" objects for furnishings. He had the same life size statue and used it as a coat and hat rack at the front door.

After I posted, I realised that my post sounded stupid(racist) without any intent. What I wanted to say was: I wish I was Mexican and NOT Serbian

Well... I received the remaining "estate" of my Tio Tony.
mostly 1980s miscellaneous stuff from his last apartment. Also, a fishing weigh, a cross, and a clip/snap thingie. The cross has a lot of wear on the bale-part. My ol' man thinks it's nickel, for some reason.
KingOfThings is being good enough to track his army serial number... we'll see where that leads.
    Wow...

The cross looks like it was hand cut from sheet silver. Navajos used to do that sometimes, but Mexican smiths might have too. That goes double for someone working outside one of the major silver manufacturing centers. It's cool because of the wear on it, not despite it. That cross "been there done that" and you have to wonder what it saw. From the wear I wouldn't be surprised if your uncle wore that thing all the way across Europe on his dog tags, and after he came home there it stayed.

I'm just making up stories, but it's a good educated guess. It may not have been on the same chain, but someone wore the heck out of that thing for a long time.

I hate box chains...I had a Sterling one...wore it 24/7 with a small gold pendant , and it ate thru the 14K bale , till one day the pendant just dropped off. I looked for it...but where to look ???

Funny thing though.....it fell down my shirt....and as I undressed that evening it fell into my pants....down my leg & into one of my shoes.
Imagine my surprise to find it taking off my shoes......make the relief !!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

We chicas find pendants and earrings in our bras, Professor. Thank goodness for your shirt and shoes!

Evely, I'm trying hard to recall seeing this on Uncle Tony... I *DO* recall he wore a cross, a big one (yipes, did I mention this one is a little over 2 inches? my bad)... but I just can't remember. And nobody has found any snapshots of him... so far.

Two inches isn't that huge; my favorite (old Italian) is probably closer to 4. I once wore a brand new, to me, pair of earrings out thrifting and realized part way through one was missing. Thought it was gone for good, but when I undressed that night it fell out of my bra.(LOL) I've found whole necklaces in my shirt before too.

It's not like dropping a keyring into your Jockstrap.

    Women have much better "padding."

Primarily, of course, for protection.
