Featured Oriental Wood Turned Signed Dish

Can somebody point me in the right direction on researching this small turned dish? Firstly what type of wood is this? and secondly can somebody recognize the mark which looks chinese to me compared to marks on chinese porcelain. It measures 5-1/4"W x 7/8"H x 1/8" thick. I have turned wood on a wood lathe and the way this dish was made is very, very hard to do. Thanks in advance.
