Original art? Please comment

Hi all,so is this an original work or a print? Again I wasn’t sure but the look of the signature convinced me.

Louise Guthrie (1879-1966) was a SA botanical artist. Obviously the newer frame and frame date: 7/04 doesn’t match that timeline at all. Also the framers name and the word ‘decorative’ doesn’t provide any confidence It’s 34x24cm. Thanks for any comments

 

Hard to tell but it looks like a watercolour but it doesn’t seem to have either the competence or confidence of the Louise Guthrie works found online.

 

Thanks for the comment. I didn’t find many examples of her work. Most of her paintings it seems were donated and are in large collection. I did find this and the signatures match.

Going to e-mail the Hermanus Botanical Society and ask them.

 

I e-mailed the former Head of Manuscripts & Archives and of Special Collections, UCT Libraries. She was in charge of the Guthrie collection and a source of information when Mr Rourke
wrote that article. UCT has several of Ms Guthrie’s paintings.
