    It's not paper-mache so therefor not Russian, hinges look handmade, gesso under the paint. As AJ has already said "northern European, folk art" I think barge ware and given that sort of style hasn't really been a fashion in the 20th c I would put it in the 19th c

    Yes, bargeware is in the same vein as Continental folk painting. We have Hindeloopen painting and Assendelfts painting, Norway has Rosemåling, which was inspired by Dutch folk painting.
