I think California Sea Otter is a good lead. See this James Siebert. Not the same but I think my otter used to sit on a wood stand like this. Also the same languid pose.

These are ours. River and lakes rather than sea. They're partial to invasive crayfish.

 

I just want to hug him; he is so adorable.

 

Aren't they gorgeous? They swim belly down, and don't lie on their backs.

 

Definitely, a beautiful color. So sleek. The one who posed for the picture thought he was good looking too.

I think sea otters float on their backs so they can use their belly as a dining table and eat without going on land, where they are not as quick.

 

Somewhere on the internet, there is a film of otters, lying on their backs in the water, and whapping clam shells together to get at the meat.
