Featured Painting -- any idea of age?

    So, due to some work in the house, this painting is off the wall and I replaced it with something else. Most likely I bought this one at an antique fair or possibly off ebay. (I went through a short period of buying art off ebay back in the 90s). The artist is J Nicoll and since it's on canvas board, I should think an amateur effort, but it appealed to me. Can anyone give an approximate date from the Winsor and Newton label on the back? Also, do you think a North American scene, or possibly somewhere European?     Quick internet search points towards 1950s-1970s.
