Saw it in the photos for a garage sale over the summer. Sent the seller a text a few hours into their sale and it was luckily still there. Paid them electronically and they mailed it to me. It’s a piece I actually use which is nice. I use it for mail but would love to know what the proper term for it would be? Is it technically for calling cards? Letters? Something else altogether? If anyone can find this same model somewhere I would love it. There’s a different figural dog calling card tray that I like that comes up but not this one. Don’t have dimensions at the moment which I know would be helpful. It’s basically the perfect size for standard long envelopes.

$5.50 in 1894? That sounds like a lot of money!

    According to the internet:

“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index, today's prices in 2020 are 2,890.79% higher than average prices since 1894. The U.S. dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 2.73% per year during this period, meaning the real value of a dollar decreased.

In other words, $5.50 in 1894 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $164.49 in 2020, a difference of $158.99 over 126 years”

Btw a card receiver just means something to hold your mail right?

I don't think so ..more for the "gentleman caller" to place his card upon before making off with the family jewels ......

and those calling cards were carried around in these ...

..as an aside, at the height of my career as an art dealer many moons ago, I had calling cards made by a banknote engraver. Engraved on 5 steel plates to print and emboss my design in 4 colours plus gold leaf .. these cards ended up costing $5 apiece, but these were some cards! I wish I had one left!

I’ve had my eyes on a nice silver calling card case for a while. I want one to carry my credit cards in. I use a money clip vs. a wallet which is nice for bills and one or two cards but not the pile of gift cards, transit cards, and membership cards that I carry around. There was an American coin silver one for a good price that I liked recently but it’s dimensions weren’t right sadly.
I would have loved to see your card. Sounds amazing!!!! I hope you find one that is hiding from you some day.
