If you survived Studio 54, you've earned the right to an avatar. Or not as desired. That was the key to why so many of us didn't know the name.
I survived Studio 54. But I was only there once, on invitation from someone I had never met. Don't worry, there was a group of us. The other nights in NY I had to work til after midnight to help get a new art gallery off the ground.
I did survive shockingly. At least once a week during the day LOL. I’d leave work at 6-home by 6:30, out with the dog until 7:30 (poor thing-one of my biggest regrets was having a dog when working full time but I was young, stupid and selfish), in bed by 8 and wake up calls would start around 11 to meet before midnight. The marvel was getting up the next morning to go to work.
Beyond true LOL. I don’t know how I did it but I was far from alone. Spending my 20s in NYC during the 70s was an experience.
Ocassionally, after a late club night, I'd call in sick due to "bad ice." Lots of sympathy because none of my colleagues made the connection to the contents of my cocktail. Debora
(LOL) I barely drank even in college, and never did anything the cops would have confiscated. Doesn't sound like I really missed much. Of course by the time I was old enough, there was no Studio 54 and my college was out among the cows anyway.
New York City night club, beloved of the jet set and wanna-bes. Infamous for less than legally acceptible goings-on in the restrooms and at the tables.
A famous/notorious nightclub in New York. The night I was there, Blondie performed. One thing I noticed, was that while the girls and women dressed up, most guys just wore old T-shirts. Except for the cross-dressers of course. I promised myself to never date an NY guy in an old T-shirt. I guess I am too European.
I was neither. We were invited by a hot-shot who was a regular. Not jet set or wanna-be either, but rich enough to own the building where the gallery was located (and other buildings), and pay for the night for a group of people he hardly knew. He thought us presentable enough to show off.
It was also a bit of a tourist trap, and you were trapped into it.(LOL) They wouldn't have let the likes of me past the door.
I wasn't a tourist either. Worked long hours to meet a deadline, and only managed to sneak in two museum visits. Tourists had to wait in line, we were ushered right through. I had a terrible cold too, but it was one of those things where saying no would have been bad for business. So I went, bright eyed and bushy tailed.
That would be none of my business. I am sure there are many other reasons why someone would have been a valued regular there. And if someone owned a couple of buildings in NYC, I'm sure he could pay to entertain a group of people in Studio 54.
