Pendant or something else?

I dug up a new garden spot this spring and found this buried! It sorta looks like a pendant but I'm not really sure as the hole is so small for a chain to go through. Anyone know?

 

That appears to be a vintage mustard seed charm.

Those thin chains are prone to breaking, which is why it probably wound up in the ground, judging from the small hole!!!!

Bingo. Those pendants were everywhere about 50-60 years ago. I have one or two around somewhere.

 

I remember lots of girls wearing little mustard seed pendants that looked like the ones shown by Xristina & Debora, but the metal part of Sarita's (welcome, Sarita) is in an older style. I have a butterfly wing pendant in a mount like that.

 

It's just missing a jump ring or bail for the necklace to be worn.

This is the first time I heard of someone actually planting one of these.

 

Most folks don't have space for a mustard plant anyway.(LOL)

 

I've sold a bunch of bracelets, necklaces and pins with these. My mother and aunts all had them.

 

When I ended up in the hospital for some awful lacerations when I was in High School, my older sister brought me one of these. It had been hers. One of my most cherished things.
