Every time I read this I chuckle a little. Looks like her left foot is a little mangled too, must have tried to run away. I like the way the photos kind of brings history back to life.

 

My understanding of such history is this happened, maybe not a lot but it did. I think I've seen her in the past, how could I forget, but haven't seen anyone else tattooed like this. I'll have to research...

Indeed. The other tattooed areas are shown in a different movie elsewhere.....

 

Was fascinated as a kid by the John Wayne movie 'The Searchers' and read Olive Oatman's story years ago, rereading it when 'Hell on Wheels' premiered - the 'Eva' character's tattoos and history are based on her. Seems more likely that the tattoo was done when she became a wife, rather than a slave. She changed her recollections as time went on, with the Mojave becoming more her captors than as first told - a white woman of that era would have wanted to avoid the stigma of having been in a consensual relationship with an Indian...

No tattoo on Natalie there though I don't think... Of course you can't see above her thong so....
