I found these photos amongst the boxes of stuff that belonged to the man who owned the house we purchased a few years back. There was quite a bit of stuff left in the house that we had to clear out before we tore it down.

He was at least a lieutenant colonel in the army & I know he spent some time out at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.

    Does anyone recognize the structure?

There's enough information on the board to identify via the internet. With a quick search, I came up with Fort Pulaski. You will want to confirm/not.

    Fort Totten.jpg

    Hi, Peggy -

It looks to me like Fort Totten in Queens, NY - sometimes in earlier years called
the Fort at Willets Point or Camp Morgan.

    Here's a bit of info:

Fort Totten: 1862, Queens County. Started in 1857 with plans prepared by Cpt. R.E.Lee, constructed in 1862 as a Civil War-era military installation constructed to defend the eastern approach to New York Harbor via the East River, but not completed. Shown on 1871 map as Fort Willets (Willets Point)

SBSVC - Thank you so much!!!:kiss::kiss:

I tried poking around a little bit using some of the information on the sign, but had no luck.:confused:

Has anyone explored the 'disappearing gun' emplacements at Sandy Hook, NJ?
VERY spooky. I was quite uncomfortable there and I took a photo that later showed a female form in a doorway!
    BOO!

    This place later held rockets.

I've been past the site of Fort Totten innumerous times, although never been there for a visit. It's located just off what used to (and may still) be called the Belt Parkway, east of LaGuardia Airport. You can only see the sign and the site doesn't look very important from the highway.

    Ok...
    Is it by a bay?
    I mean right on one?
    :)

Yes it is right on the water. That part of the highway is lined with cattails on both sides. Very marshy area, and an arm of the larger body of water separates the little hill with the sign from the road at one point.

I had read that David Bushnell's sub Turtle was lost near there so it made sense that it may hve been near this fort.
    Now I rechecked and it wasn't. :p

If you've ever been across the Throgs Neck Bridge, you've gone right past the fort.

Don't think I ever have. Not been to LaGuardia...that I recall.

I think this would be considered gelatin silver print, but is there a way I can tell when the image was made?:confused:

Thanks again for all of the opinions & advice so far!!:kiss:
