Such as how big? Heavy or light? How & where did you acquire it? What does the bottom look like? Anything else you can tell us?

    Hey. Thanks for the reply.
Actually a friend sent me the pictures, i'll ask him for more information.

Sorry, I'm new to this, so I don't know how to properly search.

Don't worry, we have some excellent searchers.:)
In which country is the box located? That can help with the search.

Maybe it is a small snuffbox for an English naval officer. The flag inside, white with a red cross, is the flag of England, the heraldry speaks of the Navy. More info needed.

It looks too recent to be a snuffbox, imo.

There are no dimensions given. Like how many inches/centimeters in diameter? An object of known size next to it would help a guess of proportions. But, please, don't put an American or English coin there! We're in an international forum so the sizes of these coins may be unfamiliar to readers in other countries. Perhaps a yardstick with inches and centimeters next to it? @Any Jewelry : Snuff boxes are being made as we speak, even repros of old ones. I don't see how it could be "too recent." But perhaps it was for some other article of enjoyment by the armed services, who knows. No suggestions here, they'd probably be edited out.

I know repros are being made, and many fakes. But repros or fakes are hardly likely to be used by an English naval officer, are they?
On the off chance that an English naval officer were to use snuff tobacco, he or she would use a box that fit tightly, both to keep the tobacco in good condition and to prevent it from falling out. Besides, you meant a period one, didn't you.;)
Anyway, it is not a snuff box.

@Any Jewelry So since you know that it definitely is not a snuff box, what is your best take?

P.S. Snuff comes in a chew variation too, not powdery...it's still snuff even if some call it chewing 'baccy.

Trinket box, meaning 'whatever you want to use it for as long as it suits the purpose' box.:playful:
That is new to me, and probably to all other snuff bottle and snuff box collectors out there.;) I know some people will put anything up their nose, but it must be pretty difficult with things like this:inpain::nurse:

From their arms, looks like they were always putting out fires! So maybe ashtray makes good sense, if it closes tightly enough. Although, could you fit a butt in there? If you don't want to drop ash where you are, surely you wouldn't just throw the butt down either?

Ah, my mistake, a US shop listed it as chewing tobacco. (Never trust Americans.:joyful: :muted::sorry::bag:)
Chewing tobacco hasn't been used here since ca 1900, when it was used by very few people anyway, so we don't see it here.
There was an attempt about 10 years ago to introduce Swedish chewing tobacco, but the EU put a stop to that. I doubt many people would have been interested anyway, it isn't part of our culture.

Not sure Italians use those, I always used to see them leaving a trail of cigarette ash and butts, (hence the fires ;)), but it could have been made for the tourist market.
