    Another ‘bought for research’ item!
Any ideas what this is please?
It’s 7” long and made of plaster filled celluloid.
Sort of looks like a walking stick handle but I’m not convinced as it would have been pretty fragile as can be seen from the damage but maybe that is what it is
Google has found me several plaster filled celluloid ornaments which are dated c1930.
    Any thoughts please?
    Thankyou :)

It appears to be a parasol handle.

Agree with Debora. The "hand " is a little awkward!

Lol, the whole thing is awkward. I thought she has 6 fingers until I realised one was the stem of the rose. Not a flattering portrayal :joyful:
That makes sense as it wouldn’t need to be as robust as a walking stick handle. Thankyou :)

Would 1930s/ Deco period be about right do you think?

I think she's meant to be a historical (i.e. not contemporary) figure. But given hair and necklace length, think she would appeal to a 1930s customer. Is that real tortoise shell or faux? Something about it looks foreign. Do you think it was of Chinese origin?

Definitely not real tortoiseshell fortunately. It doesn’t react to UV and in real life it’s a fairly poor imitation.
No idea about Chinese, @Any Jewelry might be able to place it?

    I don't think it's an historical figure. I think it's just a decorative 1930s parasol handle.

Do you think the parasol was paper? I can understand why someone might want to keep the handle, it's interesting. But I think sawing it off might have been better than just breaking it over the knee, lol!

Maybe she chased her beau when he misbehaved and whopped him with it :hilarious:
Makes sense, paper wouldn’t have survived.
