plate looks chinese but is not chinese?

dear all

need help with mark. getting cross-eyed from staring at it too long
i think there is an endless knot in the middle and an R, E, S?
not your regular chinese mark ...

I see "Hong Kong" across the left and top and another word with an SES in it.

 

That's someone's version of the English traditional India Tree pattern.

I don't have a clue, but why do you say "1960's or later"?

The India Tree (some makers called it Indian Tree) has been made for well over 100 years. (My own inherited set by Spode was made post WWII, but was not the first time Spode or Copeland made it.)

 

just a guess, thinking mum could have bought them after she got married rather than something from her mum/grandma's collection. and the hong kong connection. haven't found any hong kong marks with endless knot though.

 

I think it's one of the Doulton marks and what's across the bottom is BURSLEM.

The geometric mark in the center is what tipped me to the idea.

used a loupe over the handphone camera lens for this. definitely says "DOULTON'S BURSLEM"
wonder it is one of those made in the colonies pieces or just a japanese reproduction like the beehives? but no matter, i think this solves the mystery. tq!
