Please help identify what this is? small box with wax maybe?

I have found this little item from past family members and I really have no idea what it actually is.

Seems like a wax or some type of dried up balm inside. It does turn liquid if heated.

Interesting image and no visible markings that I can find.

I would be more interested in the box than the contents.
The box is from India. Probably low grade silver. The painting is inspired by the Mughal style, but not of the period.
