Greetings, antiquers! A new user here.

Please help me identify the age, origin, material and style of this antique buffet cabinet.

The information I received is that it was purchased from Latvia during the Soviet Era, time range approximately 1970-1980. The cabinet buffet could be made in the 1890-s according to non-expert opinions. Unfortunately, there are no markings or signatures that could give any sort of a hint.

    Please help and elaborate regarding:
    1) What could be the age of this antique cabinet buffet?
    2) What could be the origin - Russia, Holland, France?
    3) What material could this be made of? Walnut or oak? Seems like the frame is pine.
    4) What style does it bear? Historicism?

    All opinions are welcome!

Welcome Unique! I am not knowledgeable about this piece but there are many here that are. However, I can tell you in advance that they will want pictures of the back and inside doors and sides of drawers to get a good look at construction. You can post up to 10 pics.

This type of furniture is not really within my sphere. That said, I do think it is antique. Late 19th or early 20th century. I would guess Germany or Belgium as a place of origin, though I could see it being produced further East as well. Historicism is not really a term we use here in the US but it may fit your piece. We would probably consider this more renaissance revival, though probably produced later than the period. I am having a bit of trouble determining wood. Looks a bit like beech or a similar tight grain wood with a stain applied.

The unfinished shelves look like cypress wood to me, altho could be pine. Seems unusual not to use first class pine with knot holes, so it could all be cypress or some other wood. Is it soft or hard? Does a hard fingernail make a tiny mark in it? It rather resembles cypress to me. There appears to be a cherry wood stain under the varnish. It's old but not nearly as old as the original period piece it was copied from.

I think Germany or German influenced. There were important German communities in the Baltic region, for instance.
It doesn't look Belgian to me, and not French or Dutch either.

looks like knotty pine to me with the doors stained to look like oak..

the locks look swapped out for something new and cheap.....

    it's lovely....but I don't see 120 years old...
