My little woo-hoo find today... but how do I get it open?? I fiddled with it and fiddled with it and I can’t get it to open. I see the tiny little knob on one side and the hinge on the other but… Is there a trick to this or something?

Are you sure it opens, is there a hinge?

If it's a locket it is not Pools of Light. Pools of Light are orbs of rock crystal. They can not be cut or have bead holes.

I've not seen these before as lockets but holding a single mustard seed. I still have the one my sister gave me when I slashed open my arm on a sliding glass door and ended up in the hospital for a couple days.

The photo of the hinge is too dark,it looks like the hinge is damaged.

The center little bit of the hinge is darkened but it is not damaged.

it is just like this one but has one little knob halfway down the side of the ball instead of two knobs.

Lightened a bit shows the hinge......

bluumz, I'm afraid one of the knobs on your locket is missing. It would have been on the other half, making it easy to open.
It is still gorgeous though, and genuine pool of light imo. It is beautiful as a pendant too.

It does look like the hinge is damaged and it was probably super glued back together.

I might try getting a hat pin into the groove if there's enough of a gap.

I think it's just stuck. Usually you put one finger nail on one ball and your thumb nail on the other and push in opposite directions. Maybe try putting it in the freezer for about 20 seconds - not longer. The cold may shrink the metal enough to loosen it up. You don't want the glass to crack so don't leave it in longer.

I agree that it's just stuck. I tried 20 seconds in the freezer to no avail... you didn't mean 20 minutes?

    Tests as 14K. :)

    Nice mask, Bev! ;)

Bluumz - I burned a hole in my chest in the sun with one of those things! 30 years ago and I still have the scar.. :(

Yah, I don't suggest anyone wear something magnifying on their bare chest! All it takes is a moment of sunlight!:(:yuck:

I had to go with the slim tip of a knife and only succeeded in making a few scratch marks in the gold. I’m thinking perhaps a local watch repair may be able to help. :)

I've had luck with sewing needles; knives tend to be too thick.
