Possible jade? Horse figurine.

    Picked this up for $5, thought it was interesting.... Could this be jade?

    Why couldnt it be jade ? Because its so clear ? I dont think its glass,it doesnt have that molded look to me. Id have bought that in a second !

    The carving is mechanical. If it were jade in that quality, i.e. pretty darned rare, it wouldn't be carved into what looks like a souvenir piece.

    It's clearly not nephrite or jadeite.

    Possibly Green Aventurine which is a type of quartz.

    Hmm interesting. I will have to have it looked at in person by someone! Either way $5 is no loss IMO.

    I don't think it's prehnite either - not "greasy" enough looking, if that makes any sense. OTOH for five bucks the OP can't get hurt no matter what.

    It is definitely not jade! Oh well, for $5 it was nice to learn about a gem stone. Thanks everyone!

    I've got a collection of tiny horses, less than an inch long; handcarved in China, and looking very similar to this in style. In a variety of stones: clear quartz, amethyst, carnelian and such (or what appear to be those stones). Purchased from import dealers at gem and mineral shows some years ago; not terribly expensive, due to the low labor costs in China.
