Post Mortem baby large photo real hair

JMHO.
these post mortem "chest pictures" (don't know what they would be called in English) were made in continental Europe in nunneries.

 

as an addition - just in case some item got astray and ended up in the US, there is a variation called Fatschenkind. also made with true hair and good materials in cloisters and nunneries. it is thought by some that they were made by nuns as a replacement of their own not-to-be-children or as a sign of their marriage to Jesus.

I've never seen those Fatschenkind style pictures here in the U.S. Will keep an eye out. Fascinating to read about them and see the various photos.

As others have mentioned, here in the U.S. more familiar with the framed 40's folk-art paper cut out face/hands with real hair and silk, pressed between a glass in a regular frame, not shadowbox. The US ones I've sold in the past did not strike me as post mortem as the paper cut out did not appear to be a photo of any kind. You see some more well done than others, as with any art/craft. At first glance I would not have thought Billy's was post mortem, but could be wrong. I think the market is a bit soft for these compared to two decades ago.
