Any thoughts on the maker of this? Unfortunately the name is fairly common and there are a few prolific potters with the same last name so kind of a long shot. Do you think amateur or more of a studio piece? I noticed it looks like the they shaved extra glaze of the base that must have dripped down. Is that commonly done?

Glaze that runs on to the base isn't usually the sign of a good pot. I even avoid pots where it has been ground off.

    Not a bad form though.

Exactly what I was wondering too. Thanks.

Well, I call it studio pottery, and the maker was kind enough to leave a legible signature and date.
