Hi all.Picked up this odd thing today mainly because it was so ugly its cute. I think its either a biscuit jar or a really big sugar bowl. Its 7 1/2 by 7,and I love the color.Any input is always appreciated.

It's a striking color and love those little feet! Something about it reminds me of paint your own pieces or home studio cast pieces. Well done, maybe it's just the way it's signed. Don't know....

Not saying that this lovely whimsical piece is one or not, but that was my initial reaction also. I remember when you could find one of those "make it yourself" greenware ceramics studios in every U.S. town, c. 1980s. I am guilty of a few horrors myself. Glazes are magical, and evil...they never turn out the way they look coming out of the jar. And don't even get me started on dubiously chosen transfers. I have fondly dubbed these hobby pieces "Grandmajolica". Feel free to adopt the term if you like it, I would be honored.

Thanks for the input everyone. I swear,I dont know how I find this hard to identify stuff! A friend said she thought it was victorian and a sugar jar,but I just dont know.Would they be so large? Ive googled "strange" in every variation I can think of,nada.

Sugar wasn't always granulated. It was sold in cones (big chunks).

I'm betting it's just another word for Foreign, i.e. German export pottery/porcelain from just after WWI.
