Hi everyone! :) I came across this brooch and I really love the style. Not sure about the age of it. No hallmarks and it is said to be gold filled. Looking at the catch of the brooch, it seems quite modern. What do you think? :) brooch.jpg broochback.jpg

The back looks a lot newer than the front wants to be.

It looks like a 20th century Revival brooch. Historic styles are 'revived' every now and then. It is pretty and should clean up nicely.

Thank you! Yeah that's what I thought . I have another one that I am eyeing. I think it has an older style catch but I'm thrown off by the marcasites. This one might be revival too. It's sterling though, but not marked . I think it's gorgeous !

You're right - that catch was popular circa 1900-1920 and it's almost certainly sterling. The green stone is probably glass and from the way it's set I'd say dead bang on 1920 for a date. No idea what to call the design. I think it's meant to be worn green point down and it may have been one of a pair.

Yes, it is. It is older, as evelyb said, 1920s, Art Deco style.
Looks like silver, did you look for marks?

No sadly, there are no marks. The seller thinks it's German

It may be my eyes deceiving me but the marcasites look as if they are properly set into the brooch and not just glued in. I always think that’s a sign of quality if marcasites are in like that.
