Any ideas for what this might have been used for?

    Looks like drawers are missing.

I thought about maps...but the drawers are usually much thinner and the wood is very smooth.... upload_2017-9-6_3-3-6.jpeg

There only looks to be three sets of groves on the sides for the three drawers present. I think it's been repurposed since those drawers don't look to be on the original tracks inside. Could be totally wrong though. Maybe a few pics of the interior without the drawers would tell more.

    I agree.

Can you take some photos of the drawer's dovetails and if you can find any nails or screws please photograph. :)

Maybe an old chest of drawers that has been re-purposed for workshop use. As configured now, there is no purpose for those side runners seen in the photos. Have to think they originally had a purpose.

Just noticed you were calling this a drying chest.
If drying food items, I would think the bottom of the drawers would be metal screen for air circulation.

I agree with that too - the outside of it, and the size sure looks like it was a chest of drawers at one time.

I'd be thinking that too. Love the green paint, btw.
