If you’re wearing masks with ear loops you can put a ribbon through the loops and tie it for a tight seal. The only ear loop ones that stay up are the ones with the toggles for tightening. If you buy masks with a pocket for a filter you can also put a paper mask filter in the sleeve and you’ll have the nose bar to help fit it to your face and keep it up.

I've been making my own, but with straps that go around the back of my head. No ears involved. Mom needed one to wear to get her hair cut, so I had to look up one with ear straps and dig out some really narrow elastic. I cut the raggedy ends off my own hair for the first time in over a year, but it really hasn't been "cut" since 1989. (LOL) Haven't exactly needed one of the ear ones myself.

We wear tie ones except when getting haircuts. That’s the only time we wear ear loops. They just don’t stay up and tight.

I've made some of the tie ones too. Those ear elastics people made with hair ties just aren't sturdy, and at one point I couldn't get elastic.

That’s what my neighbor said and she switched to ties too. I don’t sew and started buying tie ones from the getgo but use the medical ear loop ones as filters.

My OH made himself a leather mask (not as dodgy as it sounds, he makes all sorts of things out of leather.......I think I'll leave that one right there as it sounds more iffy when I try to explain......).
Anyway, moving on, he didn't want a girly fabric one so he made this leather one but unfortunately forgot the minor detail that he did actually need to breath......:dead:

The best masks I have were handmade, one by a parent of a student of mine. The little girl picked out red with white polka dots, and she said it was to match my red hair. I just adore and treasure it.

My mask was made by my neighbor out of cotton with the loops that go over my ears. It was too loose so I did some light stitching to make it tighter. It has a small, medium blue repeat pattern on it. Yesterday at the flea I put a rhinestone pin on it, it didn't cause any problems at all. Funny, hardly anyone noticed it :woot:

Maybe I'll try putting clip earrings where the elastic ear loops meet the mask.

I keep saying I'm going to draw a smile on mine. Dogs must be wondering why now it's the humans who have to wear muzzles when they go outside.

In the hospital where I work, the surgical masks with ear loops are one-size-fits-all. (Ones with ties are also available for those that prefer them.) Anyway, we get them to fit by giving the ear loop a twist (or two) prior to looping it around the ear. Works great on those masks that are just a bit too big!

But that would really help enforce the 6 foot rule, may even get you 12 feet.

I've been making extras including one muslin one marked "Mask goes over mouth and nose" in fabric marker.(LOL) Thinking of handing that to the manager of a local supermarket!
